BAE Systems completes Saudi Typhoon deliveries 13/06/2017 | Redazione

BAE Systems has handed over the last 2 Eurofighter TYPHOON in single-seater configuration to Saudi Arabia as the British aerospace giant has completed a delivery to the Gulf country including 72 Tranche 2 aircraft ordered in 2007 under a 41 billion dollars contract. The original program included the supply of the first 24 aircraft directly from BAE Systems and the assembly of the remaining 48 units on a local basis at a line to be established at Alsalam Aircraft Company (a joint venture between Boeing, Saudi Arabian Airways and Saudi Advanced Industries Company). However, the limits of the local industry and the obvious issues over the safeguarding of informations between BAE Systems and Boeing had wrecked the project and all the aircraft were manufactured at Warton. BAE Systems, thanks to the TORNADO and Eurofighter programs, employs more than 5.000 people in the Kingdom. BAE Systems and Saudi Arabia have been currently negotiating the purchase of a second tranche of 48 aircraft – Tranche 3 standard aircraft with AESA CAPTOR-E radar and CFTs - but the continuously announced deal has still failed to materialise.
