L’annuncio c’è ed è clamoroso: Francia e Germania svilupperanno assieme il nuovo caccia europeo per rimpiazzare Eurofighter TYPHOON e RAFALE. A dare il via a questo grande progetto, fondamentale per il destino dell’industria aeronautica del Vecchio Continente, sono stati il Presidente francese Emmanuel Macron e la Cancelliera tedesca Angela Merkel in persona durante un meeting la scorsa settimana a Parigi.

Leonardo to upgrade Defensive Aids Sub System (DASS), known as PRAETORIAN, of the RAF's Eurofighter TYPHOON fighters under a contract between NETMA agency and Eurofighter consortium. The work will allow the aircraft to meet the Royal Air Force’s future operational requirements and is part of a continuous capability evolution to ensure UK Typhoons can identify and defeat known and emerging threats. PRAETORIAN is a completely integrated suite of protective electronic systems installed on the TYPHOON, which includes ECM, ESM, MWS (Missile Warning Systm) and dispenser chaff and flare systems. Leonardo leads the EuroDASS consortium (which also includes HENSOLDT, Elettronica and Indra) and is co-design authority of the systems together with Italian Elettronica. A majority of the UK’s fighters new capability enhancement contract will be carried out by Leonardo at its electronic warfare centre in Luton, UK, while integration work and airworthiness clearances will be carried out by the UK’s TYPHOON prime contractor BAE Systems in Warton, UK. Overall, Leonardo provides more than 60% of the avionics for the Typhoon, including leading the consortia responsible for providing the aircraft’s radar CAPTOR-M and Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system PIRATE. The company is responsible for around 36% of the Typhoon’s overall program value, which includes parts of the aircraft’s structure, avionics and on-board electronics. In a further technology development, Leonardo is currently leading the EuroRADAR consortium in the development of the CAPTOR-E (E-Scan) radar which will replace the currently in service CAPTOR-M.

anteprima Scramble per una coppia di TYPHOON 13-07-2017

Nel primo pomeriggio di giovedì 13 luglio un velivolo civile belga in volo da Ibiza (Spagna) a Larnaca (Cipro) ha fatto scattare l'allarme di "scramble" a seguito di un mancato collegamento radio con gli enti del controllo dello spazio aereo nazionale.

anteprima F-35A/Bs join RED FLAG 12-07-2017

The U.S. Air Force began Red Flag 17-3, its three-week air-to-air combat training exercise. Teh drill will conclude on July 28. Aircraft depart from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., twice daily to participate in combat training missions on the Nevada Test and Training Range north of Las Vegas in one of the Air Force’s largest joint exercises. For the first time, two F-35 Lightning II squadrons take part in the drill as the Marine Corps’ F-35Bs participate alongside the Air Force’s F-35As. Red Flag consists of a variety of attack, fighter and bomber aircraft, reconnaissance aircraft, electronic warfare aircraft, airlift support, search and rescue aircraft, aerial refueling aircraft and ground based command and control, space and cyber forces. More than 2,500 joint warfighters will participate in the multi-domain integration, Red Flag 17-3, where they will operate together and successfully defeat the threat. Follow updates.

Lockheed Martin received a direct commercial sale contract from the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) to provide SNIPER Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) for its F-16 fleet, becoming the 25th international customer for the program. Under the $22,45 million contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver ATPs, spares and support equipment for integration. To meet the BDF's urgent operational need, pod deliveries will begin in early 2018.   Sniper ATP detects, identifies, automatically tracks and laser-designates small tactical targets at long ranges. It also supports employment of all laser-and GPS-guided weapons against multiple fixed and moving targets. Sniper ATP is interoperable across multiple platforms, including U.S. Air Force and multinational F-2, F-15, F-16, F-18, A-10, B-1, B-52 and TYPHOON aircraft. The pod is 202 kg and also includes an high definition mid-wave IR sensor and high definition TV camera. Lockheed Martin is continuously investing in the system in order to keep it upgraded and capable to address the most modern threats.

L'Operazione di Enanched Air Policing in Bulgaria, denominata BULGARIAN HORSE, ha preso il via con 4 Eurofighter TYPHOON pilotati da equipaggi del 4°, del 36° e del 37° Stormo L'operazione ha come obiettivo quello di preservare lo spazio aereo della NATO aumentando ed integrando l'attività di difesa aerea bulgara. Gli assetti italiani implementeranno il servizio di sorveglianza dello Spazio Aereo bulgaro fino alla metà del mese di ottobre volando al fianco dei velivoli MiG-29 in dotazione all'Aeronautica di Sofia. La TFA 4° Stormo, costituita sulla base aerea di Graf Ignatievo, grazie ad un Advanced team logistico formato dalla 3ª Divisione del Comando Logistico dell'Aeronautica Militare e dal 3° Stormo di Villafranca, sarà alle dirette dipendenze del Comando Operativo di Vertice Interforze.
